Everybody Dance Now takes over City 10 in town centre

June 30, 2011

Look out for a new arrival in Queen Square this week as Central Youth Theatre prepares to open its Everybody Dance Now festival hub in the City 10 venue. The city centre base will act as a box office and information point for the international celebration of dancing which will be overtaking the city from the 29th July – 6th August.

The opening of the festival hub on July 1st marks an important anniversary in relation to the festival – both the opening and closing of the Low Level Railway Station, one of the festival’s site specific performance venues. The spectacular Low Level Railway Station in Wolverhampton is undergoing an exciting transformation as part of the Everybody Dance Now project. Young designers from the city’s Central Youth Theatre are working alongside a professional designer to turn the cavernous interior of the old station into a glittering ballroom for use as a site specific performance space. As part of the festival, Central Youth Theatre will perform newly commissioned shows based on the real life memories of people who danced in Wolverhampton.

Everybody Dance Now is an international celebration of the history of social dancing. It is a Dancing for the Games project, inspired by London 2012 and part of the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands.

It has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to help build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as Arts Council England and Advantage West Midlands.

The festival takes place from 29th July to 6th August 2011 at venues across Wolverhampton.Tickets to all events cost £6 each. For more info booking visit the site or call the festival information line 07758 461 162.
