Inside the Gadget Show studio - Tom Norton & Creative Wolverhampton's Ayesha Bal

Tom attended a 9 month Television and Video Production Skills course at Light House , Wolverhampton in 2004.

“Thanks to the skills I gained whilst on the course, I started a work placement with Dreamfinder Productions where I worked on 6 Digital Shorts for Screen West Midlands, before moving on to brief stints on the regional productions Daziel and Pascoe and Doctors.”

After that, he went on to manage the Producers’ Forum, a membership based, sector-led professional organisation providing training, networking, and a cohesive lobbying voice for independent filmmakers in the creative sector.

After leaving the forum in 2008, he joined North One Television, where he has primarily worked on FIVE’s The Gadget Show, working his way up to directing.

“I owe a huge amount of gratitude to Light House, in Particular Paul Owens and Kelly Jeffs, who really did help me kickstart my career. Taking part on the Television and Video Production Skills course equipped me with the skills and confidence to make inroads into the industry, for which I will always be grateful. The hands on nature of the course got me atively involved in filmmaking and I couldn’t be happier with the way my career has gone. I’d recommend anyone trying to make it into the industry to have a look at the courses on offer as it provided me with the perfect platform to get to where I am today.”

Since working on the Gadget Show, Tom has coordinated shoots throughout the UK, Jersey, Switzerland, Abu Dhabi, Germany and South Africa. Along the way he’s overseen building Jet Powered Hoverboards, Solar Powered Boats, Wii controlled fighting robots along with a whole host of crazy but ultimately fun and rewarding projects.
