Featured Creative: Jamila Walker (Photographer)

May 12, 2011

Jamila is a Fine Art Photographer and Illustrator. She creates candid work, using texture and colour, and often works to a self-determined narrative.

Jamila studied Fine Art Photography at the University of Derby, 2004.

These narratives are often inspired by found items and gifts. Jamila is very interested in the beauty in the ordinary. Digital manipulation helps Jamila create her pieces.

Jamila graduated from The University of Derby, after completing her Fine Art Photography BA (Hons). In addition to being an exhibiting Artist, Jamila is also involved in Community Arts, commissions, Art books and Heritage Projects.

She has created Art work and or worked on creative projects for the Salvation Army, Walsall NHS, Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, TraAsh (Organic bags), Addaction Walsall and Solihull Art Gallery amongst others.

Jamila’s Arts for Health projects have given her the opportunity to work with various community groups, collaborating and helping participants develop their artistic and social skills, in a safe, person centred environment.

Jamila plans to have a coffee table book of her own, featuring her photographic projects, as well as take up an Art Gallery residency, that would involve the general public.

You can find Jamila on Facebook or visit her website.
