Featured Creative: Drew Roper – Animator

May 3, 2011

Drew Roper is a freelance animator, currently residing at  Light House Media Centre in Wolverhampton’s city centre.

Walt Disney was a childhood inspiration for Drew.  He became fascinated by animation, leading to his interest in  Stop Motion/Frame animation , “a fantastic, fantasy, quirky, timeless style of animation, which I simply adore.”

Since graduating from Southampton Solent University in ‘Animation’ in 2009,  he has managed to land crew work on big features such as  20th Century Fox’s ‘The Fantastic Mr. Fox’ and a Walt Disney/Tim Burton stop frame animated collaboration ‘Frankenweenie’ , which is currently in production.

Drew has also entered his own short animation, ‘The History of Denim’ into the FLIP Animation Festival hosted by Light House and won the ‘Audience Award’ in the Humour category at the Babelgum Animatron Animation Festival, New York.

‘The History of Denim’ was Drew’s first commissioned piece for fashion label ‘Luke 1977’ and he went on to create a viral advert for the company, who were voted the ‘Best Young Fashion Brand of the Year’ 2010 by Drapers Magazine. He has also gained funding from the Princes Trust.

Drew is currently in negotiations to animate a new children’s TV series and working on several other projects.
