Featured Creative: Amanda Anderson – Designer Maker (Mosaics)

April 28, 2011

Amanda Anderson makes vibrant wall mounted mosaics of birds and other creatures,  using stained glass, tiles, recycled ceramics and millefiori. Originally studying Fine Art in Liverpool  she worked in the sculpture department where she learnt how to work with a variety of materials and techniques.

It was while working for Wigwam Arts , a community arts group which she co-founded with Johanna Potter where she first began working in mosaic.  Wigwam has gone on to produce many large scale mosaics for schools, hospitals and other public and private buildings across the West Midlands.

Recently Amanda introduced mosaic into her personal work and began working on smaller intimate pieces for sale and exhibition. Her work aims to have a lyrical quality that explores themes of family, love and relationships.

I first saw Amanda’s gorgeous work when I had a stand at Festive Flair at the Lighthouse in Wolverhampton. Her work is even more beautiful up close.
