Central Youth Theatre NEED Actors!

April 7, 2011

Central Youth Theatre is re-launching their search for a young male actor to perform in the Everybody Dance Now festival this summer. Everybody Dance Now is a Dancing for the Games project inspired by London 2012 and part of the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands.

The group are looking for a keen performer aged 15+ to take a lead role in the brand new show “Soul Seekers”. The show has been specially written for the youth theatre by local playwright Arzhang Pezhman, and is based on the memories of local people who were involved in the Northern Soul movement.

In the 1970s Wolverhampton was the southern-most point of the very popular Northern Soul movement, and was known for the Catacombs nightclub on Temple Street.

Everybody Dance Now is an international celebration of the history of social dance in Wolverhampton, and will culminate in a city-wide festival from 29th July – 6th August 2011 which will see performances from the youth theatre as well as several European groups.

Assistant Director Rosie Baggott says, “This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented young actor to perform a leading role in a large scale festival. You’ll get the chance to learn Northern Soul moves, perform in a site-specific venue in Wolverhampton city centre and take part in London 2012. The part is primarily acting, so we are looking for confident actors.”

Boys wanting to perform need to be able to rehearse in Wolverhampton on Sundays and be available for the duration of the festival and for the preview performance on the 25th July. The group is based at the Newhampton Arts Centre, just off Newhampton Road West. If you are interested you can phone the office 01902 572091, email jane@centralyouththeatre.org or apply through the website www.centralyouththeatre.org, where you can also find out more information about the festival.
